FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Acupuncture is one of the safest medical treatments, both conventional and complementary available.

In general, acupuncture is very safe when done by a certified provider.

As a member of the Acupuncture Council of Ireland this ensures that i am a Licenced Acupuncturist with a high standard of training and adheres to certain guidelines.

Are acupuncture needles safe?

I use only the highest quality needles that are pre-sterilized, prepackaged, and disposable. Each needle is used once and then deposited in a biohazard container, which ensures safe disposal.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Generally, acupuncture does not hurt. Some people feel a dull sensation as the needles go in, and some people feel nothing. Most people find Acupuncture extremely relaxing and enjoy the experience. Acupuncture needles are not like hypodermic needles, and they are much, much thinner - about the diameter of a thick human hair. Patients may have very gentle sensations during the treatment, which is the qi (or energy) moving or the opening of a channel that has been blocked.

When can I expect results?

This varies depending on the severity of the condition being treated. Acupuncture Treatments are individually customized to each person depending on their diagnosis.  Each person is an individual and the number of treatments required depends on the type of condition, its longevity and the overall health of the patient.  The benefits of acupuncture are cumulative.  In general, you should feel some results within one to two treatments, with a larger shift for the better happening around treatment four – six.

Are there any side effects?

There are very few side effects from acupuncture when practised by a fully qualified practitioner of traditional acupuncture.

What is Acupuncture

Acupuncture has grown in popularity due to increased public experience and use by both western and oriental physicians who have integrated acupuncture into their health care. The benefits are widespread. Far more than a technique of inserting tiny thread like needles along meridian lines of the body, acupuncture treats a person as a whole, not just by isolated symptoms. It involves a  complex system of diagnosis and related treatments, and is based on the "pattern of disharmony".
